Understanding mechanical properties in fused filament fabrication of polyether ether ketone

Using dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), we investigate differences in the properties of a single-filament wall polyether ether ketone (PEEK) constructed using fused filament fabrication (FFF) under range different printing conditions. Since PEEK is semi-crystalline polymer, employ non-isothermal quiescent crystallization model, informed by infra-red (IR)-imaging measurements, to understand our findings. We propose that, typical FFF cooling conditions, weld region between filaments remains amorphous. In contrast, core has increased time above glass transition temperature allowing for significant crystal fraction develop. correlate predicted storage modulus Halpin and Kardos model.
